Short answer: if your company already pays for Google Workspace Business Standard or higher and every meeting you need to follow happens inside Google Meet, use Meet’s own translated captions — they are included and they cover 69 languages. Tingdong is for the other half of the week: the Zoom call, the webinar, the YouTube video, the lecture recording, the phone call — anything your Mac plays, in 60+ languages, whatever plan you are on.

Where a row says on-device or offline: Tingdong runs recognition and translation on a dedicated streaming engine, not on your Mac. Why that is the trade we chose — model size, 60+ auto-detected languages, simultaneous pacing — is on one page: why not on-device, and why it costs money.
Which should you pick?
Pick Google Meet’s translated captions if your organisation is on a qualifying Workspace edition and your cross-language meetings all happen in Meet: it is already paid for, it needs no extra app, and 69 languages is a wider list than ours. Pick Tingdong when the meeting is somewhere else, when your plan does not include the feature, when you would rather hear the translation than read it, or — in the Mac Website version — when you need to answer in a language you do not speak. Our honest weaknesses: for meeting audio we run on Mac and Windows only, the Windows version sends nothing into the call, and we need a network connection, because recognition runs in the cloud.
Google Meet on a Windows PC
On a Windows PC, choose “Computer audio” in Tingdong for Windows and the Google Meet meeting you are listening to appears in your language as live subtitles, whatever Workspace edition the organiser has. Frequently asked questions
Why are translated captions greyed out in my Google Meet?
The feature is limited to certain Workspace editions — Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Google AI Pro for Education, per Google’s help page on 2026-09-15. On a personal Google account or a Business Starter plan the option does not appear. Tingdong does not care which plan you are on: it works from the meeting audio your own Mac plays.
Does Tingdong join the meeting like a bot?
No. Nothing joins. It turns the audio your Mac is already playing into subtitles, so the participant list, the host controls and the recording are untouched — nobody else can tell.
How many languages does each one cover?
Google lists 69 languages for translated captions in Meet. Tingdong covers 60+ languages, translated between any pair, with the source language detected automatically.
Why should I trust this comparison?
Every claim in the left column comes from Google’s own help page, read on 2026-09-15, and the plan and language counts are quoted from it. We also put our own weaknesses in the table: meeting audio on Mac and Windows only, cloud-based, no offline mode.
