Which should you pick?
Pick Google Meet’s translated captions if your organisation is on a qualifying Workspace edition and your cross-language meetings all happen in Meet: it is already paid for, it needs no extra app, and 69 languages is a wider list than ours. Pick Tingdong when the meeting is somewhere else, when your plan does not include the feature, when you would rather hear the translation than read it, or when you need to answer in a language you do not speak. Our honest weaknesses: we are Mac-only and we need a network connection, because recognition runs in the cloud.
Frequently asked questions
Why are translated captions greyed out in my Google Meet?
The feature is limited to certain Workspace editions — Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus and Google AI Pro for Education, per Google’s help page on 2026-09-15. On a personal Google account or a Business Starter plan the option does not appear. Tingdong does not care which plan you are on: it captions the meeting audio on your own Mac.
Does Tingdong join the meeting like a bot?
No. Nothing joins. It captions the audio your Mac is already playing, so the participant list, the host controls and the recording are untouched — nobody else can tell.
How many languages does each one cover?
Google lists 69 languages for translated captions in Meet. Tingdong covers 60+ languages, translated between any pair, with the source language detected automatically.
Why should I trust this comparison?
